About Your Ward 8 Nominee Ted Knudtson

What I Stand For

I stand for telling the truth, minding the bank account responsibly, and ensuring everyone in Ward 8 and Calgary has the opportunity to contribute to our city’s success and prosperity. Like you, I am sick of partisan politics, wedge issues, and grand promises – don’t tell us what we want to hear, tell us what we need to know.

This election I have been nominated by the residents of Ward 8 to advocate for a strong inner-city, to fight for inclusivity and equal opportunity, and to provide voters an authentic, caring, progressive option at the polls.

Where I Come From

I am a born and raised Calgarian reared in a family that values service to others, inclusivity, hard work, and honesty. I love my hometown, and I truly believe that together Calgarians can achieve anything.

I am a regular guy, and like all of us I want leadership I can trust and a representative who believes in serving their community and leading by example. I have tried to remain true to these values, whether as a project manager, an Emergency Medical Technician, a freelance graphic and web designer, or waitering more tables than I can count.

My values have been shaped by the examples set by my family, and by the challenges we’ve faced. A formative experience has been my mother’s struggle with the results of traumatic brain injury she suffered in a car accident when I was four years old. Witnessing her brave, lifelong recovery process informed a keen awareness of the difference municipal services make to the quality of life of the mobility challenged, seniors, those living on lower incomes, and other vulnerable folks in our city.

Service, Not Self-Serving

As a keen advocate of community organization,  I have most recently served as the Vice President of the Cliff Bungalow – Mission Community Association. 2020 was a challenging year, one that I spent creating programs to deliver groceries to seniors, providing support to access relief, building a community garden, organizing events, and trying to make things a little better for my neighbours.

Volunteering to support my community has been an honour, and I hope to continue serving Ward 8 as your representative in City Council.
